The Bursaries for New Producers scheme provides financial and practical assistance to new commercial theatre producers with a view to furthering their careers. Recipients are able to use the bursary to develop and present new productions, mentored by an established industry figure.

The Rupert Rhymes Bursary aims to provide successful candidates with an opportunity to do something that is not catered for by other bursary schemes through an award of £2,000. For example: to enable an individual to develop skills in an international context.

Bursaries for New Producers
The Bursaries for New Producers scheme provides financial and practical assistance to new commercial theatre producers with a view to furthering their careers. The scheme aims to facilitate and encourage the development of the next generation of commercial theatre producers.

The bursary awards provide financial assistance to new producers by contributing towards the costs of the productions, enabling them to have their subsistence paid whilst they concentrate on developing projects, and by helping with the costs of professional fees. The bursary provides an experienced practitioner as mentor, and may also, in some circumstances, provide shared office space in central London.

The scheme is unique in providing the only opportunity of its kind in the UK. It is managed by Stage One (formerly the Theatre Investment Fund Ltd), a registered charity. The scheme is co-financed by the Society of London Theatre (SOLT), sponsored by The Underwood Trust, supported by the Mackintosh Foundation, Delfont Mackintosh, Andrew Treagus Associates and The Equity Trust.

Qualification

•The Bursary is intended for individuals who have some experience of theatrical producing and are planning to pursue it as a career. Applicants must show how a bursary award would develop their producing career.
• The project/s must be related to live performance but applications are considered for a variety of activities (e.g. productions, workshops, try-out, development, research).
The Panel may give preference to those applicants who are developing more than one project, especially if one of these
has commercial potential.
• The scope of the bursary: it is intended for developing productions. It is distinct from the mainstream Stage One investment, where Stage One invests in productions on a commercial basis.
• If applying for subsistence applicants must have at least one production reasonably well developed.

- contribution to financing productions / workshops / try-outs.
