Proposal Form

Stage One supports producers and commercial theatre productions by making investments in new productions that meet Stage One’s investment conditions.

Stage One can invest up to 10% of the capitalisation of the production; but due to present cash limits its investment is limited to £15,000, and is often less. Returns and profits from Stage One’s investments are reinvested in new productions.

Stage One takes the following criteria into account when deciding whether to offer to invest in a production:

• the production must have a strong commercial potential
• new plays are favoured
• whether the producer has acquired the normal subsidiary and other rights, where available; the investors must share in all subsidiary rights owned by the producer
• new producers are encouraged
• length of run – Stage One does not normally invest in limited seasons
• presentation of the figures must be clear and unambiguous (in particular, accurate costings and detailed estimates of how long until recoupment may be reached at varying levels of box office are required)
• that charges made by the producer for his/her services are fair and reasonable
• if Stage One has made a previous investment with the producer, audited accounts must have been received.

Please note that Stage One’s investment is a commercial investment; it is not an award of money. If you are a new producer you may find the
Bursaries for New Producers scheme more suitable.

If you think your production fulfils the above criteria, and you would like Stage One to consider investing in your production, please download the Proposal Form.

The Proposal Form should be completed and returned to Stage One with ten copies of all information being sent to other investors. You should carefully read all the guidelines and conditions contained in the form.

If you have any queries above Stage One’s investment in productions, or not sure whether your production is suitable, please email enquiries@stageone.uk.com.
