STAGE ONE AT THE OLIVIERS

Last Sunday marked the biggest night of the year for the theatre industry and Stage One was represented by a whole host of talent from current members and alumni! This special newsletter celebrates those that were there on the big day! We are proud to say that three of our fantastic alumni were nominated for their work and we caught up with this week to see how the whole experience went!

Joe Brown

Joe was co-producer on the Kings Head show LA BOHÈME and said this about being nominated!

"I sat watching the nominations on Facebook Live and never in my wildest dreams did I think I would hear Elaine Paige say the name of a show I had produced. To be in the same category as the Royal Opera House that lead the way in world class opera has been an absolute honour. Every single person involved in La Boheme worked extremely hard to transfer the production and for this to be recognised with a nomination has been well worth the blood, sweat and lack of sleep for all."

Trish Wadley

Trish was producer of The Red Lion, which played at Trafaglar Studios. She had this to say about her day at the awards:

"It was absolutely thrilling and terrifying to attend the Olivier Awards as a nominee in the category of Outstanding Performance in an Affiliate Theatre for The Red Lion. All of the cast were in attendance and many of the team from Live Theatre Newcastle came down for the evening to support us. My two highlights were Sheila Atim’s performance and the inspirational speech by David Lan which made us all so proud to be in this industry. I met so many people at the party afterwards at the Natural History watched over by Charles Darwin who is the subject of my next production!"

Rebecca Stafford

Rebecca received a Stage One Bursary for her Olivier nominated revival of Witness for the Prosecution, currently playing at London County Hall. Rebecca had this to say about receiving her bursary from us:

"Receiving the Bursary Award in 2016 meant that I could access the essential avenues needed to develop my career as a commercial producer. I have now just received my first Olivier Award nomination (Witness for the Prosecution, Best Play Revival) for my first ever London production. Without the support of the Stage One Bursary this would not have been possible for a regional based producer."
